Our Philosophy - ‘Numquam Requiro Cuspis’ (Never miss the point)

Fencing should be fun, it should be affordable and it should be for everyone. We are passionate about getting fencing into more state schools and we do our best to make fencing affordable for all.

How do we do this?

In several ways (here are a few examples):

We try to supply all CEN1 kit to our students - particularly juniors -  free of charge. This also includes 800N plastrons, electric kit, size 2 swords and breeches. Kit is borrowed on a first-come-first-served basis.

We offer reduced rates for Welsh Junior and Senior Internationals.

Membership of one Ddraig Wern Club allows you to train at other DW nights at a reduced rate.

We often run trips to competitions, reducing petrol and accommodation costs.

Welsh Social Membership is included in Beginners’ course fees, not added on.  

We set up and help run two major club nights in Gwernyfed and Carmarthen, have worked with 5/60 officers in state schools in Powys and Carmarthen and run junior clases in Leisure Centres all over South Wales. We also took ‘Team Dyfed’ (see left) to Excalibur in 2009.

Ddraig Wern Fencing is a partnership of two British Fencers and Coaches; Meg and Phil Shepherd-Foster.

 The fencing based company was established in 2006, after Phil and Meg completed their PGCEs at Nottingham University.  Having enjoyed teaching, but realised a passion for coaching they invested in some fencing kit, bought a people carrier, and the rest is history!
