What do the APFC do?

“We follow the Hungarian coaching system and run coach-education courses in various locations around the UK as well as providing examiners for courses run by other organisations or individuals.
Courses are weapon specific and are run at Levels One, Two and Three as well as at Master level.
Level One is an introduction to coaching. These courses focus on showing a coach how to teach basic techniques of footwork and blade work. One piece of written coursework is required for qualification at this level.”

Although the APFC is recognised by the FIE it is not currently recognised by the BFA/BAF. However:

“I know that most of you are aware but just to communicate with those who aren't, we are planning to license coaches under a SWORDMARK. I have no doubt that this will allow us to set standards, monitor and develop quality in coaching no matter what coach education product/ course people choose to do.”

- Piers Martin, Chief Executive of British Fencing 12/08/08
